Adventure holidays in Colombia
For those looking to conquer South America's most iconic, famous and rewarding treks, Colombia cannot be missed. The Ciudad Perdida, or the Lost City Trek, completes many adventure travellers' bucket lists. Hike through the steamy jungle to the ancient ruins of the Tayrona civilisation and feel the history surround you.
As with many other South American countries, there is also a rich colonial past to explore. Cartagena's old city will charm you with its multi-coloured facades and weathered cobbles.
Colombia is the only South American country to sit on both the Pacific and the Caribbean and you'll see influences of both throughout the country. Away from the coast, the country is still fantastic for adventure travel, with opportunities for rafting, hiking, climbing, biking and diving. Cloud forest, mountains and tropical islands - you'll find it hard to pick from in Colombia.
The best time to visit Colombia is hard to predict due to the varied eco-systems within the country. In general temperatures remain stable throughout the year. The high season is between December and February. Rainy season in Cartagena and the Caribbean coast is in October, but the Amazon has low water levels which means great hiking.
