There's no funner way to see Nepal and the Himalayas

  • Rafting on the Trisuli River
  • Mountain Biking at Pokhara

This is a great way to enjoy Nepal, from the peaks of the Himalayas to the lowland jungles, and have a lot of fun along the way too. Starting in Kathmandu we take a morning tour of this 'hustle and bustle' city (get out of bed super early and you can fit in an optional flight to see Everest), before escaping to medieval Bhaktapur for a taste of 'the Kathmandu that was'. Here there's none of the Kathmandu traffic chaos and this beautifully preserved city with its ancient Newari architecture, medieval Durbar Square, temples, intricately carved wooden doors and windows including the famous 'Peacock Window' is a joy to behold.

The following day we head for the Himalayas and up to the village of Nuwakot where we stay at the Famous Farm House. Being away from the main trekking regions, we have a chance to discover Nepali mountain life as it really is and we'll walk around the villages, meeting the friendly Nepalese people along the way and exchange 'Namaste'. Next we head for the Trisuli River and spend the night at a permanent camp before heading out the next day for some whitewater rafting on this fantastic Himalayan river, amongst simply beautiful surroundings.

We then travel down to Nepal's most famous National Park, Chitwan, home to the Bengal tiger, one-horned rhino, gharial, deer and a dazzling number of colourful bird species. We spend a full day engaging in jungle activities, including an elephant back safari. A further morning is spent exploring Chitwan before we head to another traditional Nepali town, Bandipur. Here we'll take a day hike amongst the hills, with an inspiring Himalayan backdrop.

Heading west we now go to Begnas Lake, where we stay overnight in a small resort hotel and get the opportunity to take a dip in the lake whilst admiring the mountains of the Annapurna, including the iconic Fishtail. Now we take a 'mini-trek' and follow part of the route known as the 'Royal Trek', camping at an amazing viewpoint affording a full Annapurna panorama, and quite the sunset and sunrise before heading down and coming to laid back Pokhara. We spend a day mountain biking around the Pokhara area, and once again are treated to superlative views of Himalayan peaks with time for a little chill out by the attractive lake here at Pokhara. Flying back to Kathmandu alongside the Himalayas, you just know we're going to end up having a 'night on the town' here to mark the end of our fantastic Nepal adventure.
